Grow Your CPVC Knowledge into Hydronic Projects

Chillers … air handlers … boilers and air separators … pumps and heat exchangers … condensate drains in plenums. Every one of these HVAC applications is a candidate for a piping material known around the world for its smooth, corrosion-resistant interior surfaces.

Mechanical contractors who have mastered the basics of working with Corzan® CPVC piping in commercial plumbing are increasingly transferring their knowledge to hydronics projects, where a third of the total piping market is re-piping due to premature failures, often caused by carbon steel corrosion. Looking ahead, are you aware of these six advantages of Corzan CPVC?

  1. CPVC never corrodes. No scaling, pitting, or other intrusions to worry about that will eventually compromise system functioning and service life.

  2. With no pressure drops from surface corrosion to consider, hydraulic calculations for sizing pipe and fittings can merely incorporate a Hazen-Williams C factor of 150, which will remain constant as the system ages. Contractors may even be able to get by with a smaller pipe size.

  3. CPVC can be joined multiple ways. Contractors who have mastered the basics of solvent welding in plumbing applications can simply transfer that knowledge and grow business to the hydronics segment with ease. You can also use mechanical joining utilizing coupling methods that have been used on steel pipe for decades. No welding required, and no cure time.

  4. CPVC is lightweight. Not only is it easier to transport to a job site, it has a lot of flexibility to be designed into a system using non-standard routing.

  5. CPVC requires less labor, tools and other incidental considerations involved with heat welding, keeping installed costs low.

  6. CPVC has lower thermal conductivity than steel, which does inhibit heat loss. But keep in mind that the material alone cannot meet the minimum required thermal performance needed for code compliance. Dig deeper into this subject here.

Rest assured that with Corzan, you don’t have to go it alone; the Corzan Piping Systems’ team of piping consultants and specialists are here to provide the advice, information and training needed to ace your first – or next – hydronics installation.
